philly steak sandwich

  • Milk bun: The soft and slightly sweet milk bun is perfect for the savory fillings while providing a delightful contrast to the bold flavors of the steak and vegetables.
  • Filet mignon: Filet mignon is a tender and premium cut of beef. It ensures that the meat in the Philly Sandwich is exceptionally tender and flavorful.
  • Bell pepper: Bell peppers complement the savory beef for a harmonious combination.
  • Onion: Caramelized onions add a burst of sweetness and crunch to the sandwich
  • Dutch cheese: Dutch cheese has a creamy texture and mild flavor and is a delightful choice to melt over the steak. It contributes to the rich and smooth nature of the sandwich and enhances its overall richness.
  • Smoked paprika: It adds a smoky and slightly sweet element to the sandwich, enhancing the overall flavor. It also adds depth and complexity to the seasoning of the meat.
  • Coriander: Coriander and garlic add aromatic and spicy notes to the meat, These spices play an important role in the marinade for filet mignon.
  • Coriander and Garlic: Rosemary and garlic are used to add a hint of herbal freshness to the sandwich.

Chef Recipe Tips:

You can safely change the ingredients in this dish:

  • you can use toasted bread instead of buns;
  • use another part of the beef cut instead of filet mignon, such as rib-eye steak or New York steak;
  • substitute pecorino or cheddar cheese for the Parmesan;

How to store the Philly Steak Sandwich?

You can store the stuffing separately from the buns. Keep the stuffing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. To freeze, place the mixture in a zippered bag and date label. It will keep in the freezer for about a month.

This dish is very filling, high in calories, and nutritious, making it suitable for those who are actively training and looking to gain (or maintain) muscle mass. The high protein content per serving makes this dish a great find for athletes and anyone engaged in strength training. As for its impact on the digestive system, this sandwich cannot be considered light food. Therefore, the optimal (I would even say, the only) time to consume it is during the midday. It would be an ideal choice for closing the carbohydrate-protein window after a workout in the first half of the day.
